Last Friday I took the Art of Attraction 12 week coaching program class to Flirtfest, a specially themed event hosted by Vancouver comedian Daniel Packard and put on by local speed dating company, Rendezvous Club. This time it was at Pop Opera (686 Hastings, apparently they change locations every so often).
The night began with a no-holds barred comedic monologue by Daniel, designed to put women at ease and encouraging them to drop their reservations about approaching men. I found his points to be spot on; women do want sex and do repress the expression of their sexual desires, men are scared and it would help if women threw them a bone here and there, and women do want a confident man who will tell her to “GET IN THE VAN!”.
After the 15-20 minute talk it was a supposed free for all for women to mack on the men, but we all observed over late-night sushi, that only 1, perhaps 2 at the most, women were actually approaching men. A long time Flirtfest patron mentioned that in the beginning, you couldn’t leave without women throwing their phone numbers at you, but that quickly reverted back to “normal” after two events. This night wasn’t a case of that either.
But the monologue did its job, after a warm up period where women got over their nervousness (“OMG, I have to approach men, I am so nervous” a busty blond woman told one of my guys at the start), women were receptive to being approached by men and having conversations.
This was not the first outing with the guys and I’m proud to say that each one did very well (again). I think between the 8 of us, we hit on every woman in the room, many multiple times (we’d be talking to a woman, then talk to a guy and she’ll will ask, “oh, did you guys come together?” or “are you guys friends?”). Everyone from the group had ample practice conversing with women and either watching myself and my assistant coach flirt with people, or getting feedback and suggestions from us on how to have better interactions.
I did stress to the guys that it’s impossible for them to get every women there. They should talk to as many women as they can that night and not to worry if it doesn’t go the way the want. You don’t know what’s going on for her. Maybe you ain’t her type and there is no attraction, maybe she had a bad day or just had a bad moment before you, etc… They are better off looking for those 1 or 2 special connections where there IS solid attraction and chemistry they can build on while there and later, outside the venue.
There were two highlights for me during the night. The first was I met a wonderful young brunette that night, an educator and an aspiring writer. She was very sensual and introspective and I’m interested in exploring the depths of her personality.
The second highlight was when one of the guys, Don, gathered everyone in a circle and told us:
Don: “Guys, DON’T hit on that girl”.
We replied: “Ok, why not Don?”
Don: “Just don’t hit on her.”
Us: “Why not? Do you call dibs on her?”
Don: “Just don’t hit on her OK?”
Us: “Why Not Don? TELL US WHY!?!”
-brief pause for dramatic effect-
Don: “That’s my cousin’s cousin.”
Some of us went into uncontrollable laughter. “So? She’s your cousin’s cousin? So what?” Ok, I admit, I was the one who couldn’t stop laughing as he was so serious when he approached us about the whole thing.
About Don, when he started the coaching program, he was one of most quiet and shyest men in the course. Now, roughly near the end of the course, he did the best out of all of us this night. He had two women helping him find girlfriends, chatted/flirted with a large number of women, and left with at least 5 phone numbers. He actually went back to Pop Opera for their regular club night, along with 3 other guys from the course, I’m still waiting to hear what happened.
All in all, the Flirtfest was a good event. Chris Hall (proprietor of Rendezvous Club) and Daniel Packard did a good job. This is the second time I’been to an event of Chris (first time was with Ben the Butler on The Beat) and I look forward to more in the future.
Best,
Ronald Lee
